Jorn Øien è tra i pianisti di punta del jazz norvegese. “Digging in the dark” è un album profondamente lirico, ma la forza del progetto è la volontà di correre rischi. Nel fluido interplay con Per Zanussi e Per Oddvar Johansen, Oien mescola la composizione all’improvvisazione, creando un’arte che risuona tra l’estasi e l’ascesi.
Jorn Øien (piano)
Jorn started his studies at the Music Conservatory of Northern Norway (in Tromsø) in 1987. During his studies he concentrated most on Edvard Grieg, but beside the studies he was playing in different jazzbands. Since then he has been one of Norway´s leading pianists. He is born in Narvik and regularly works with Beady Belle, Geir Lysne Listening Ensemble and Kjersti Stubø Quartet, as well as extensive freelance work. Previous outings include Jorn ØienTrio Short Stories w/ George Garzone and Moment Paradiso, which was nominated for the Norwegian Grammy for 2008. All the music that Jorn ØienTrio present, is written by Olsen himself.
Per Zanussi (bass)
In addition to his own Zanussi 5, Per is a member of MZN3, Trespass Trio (with Martin Kuchen and Raymond Strid),Wibutee, Crimetime Orchestra and several other projects. Zanussi has recorded or played on occasion with Hamid Drake, Louis Moholo, Bobby Bradford, Sabir Mateen, Franklin Kiermyer, Stephen O’Malley, Axel Dörner, Bugge Wesseltoft, Mats Gustafsson, Seijiro Muriyama, Kjell Nordeson, Terrie Ex, Kevin Norton, Ernesto Rodrigues, Tetuzi Akiyama and others. Zanussi has a Masters degree in music from the Conservatory in Trondheim and the Norwegian Academy of Music, Oslo, concentrating on double bass and composition. His compositional work has so far resulted in music for prize winning theatre and dance performances and short films as well as comissions for Trondheim Jazz Orchestra/Zanussi 5, Nils Petter Molvaer/Bergen Big Band and Stavanger’s Kitchen Orchestra.
Per Oddvar Johansen (drums)
Per Oddvar Johansen was educated at Trøndelag Music Conservatory, 1989-1992. He has worked professionally since 1990, and has played all over Europe in different settings. His well-known tastefulness is heard on more than sixty released albums. He has won five Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy`s), and was rated second in the international competition EUROPEAR JAZZALDIA 1994, at the XVII Festival de GETXO in Spain, with the quartet The Source. He is one of Norways leading drummers, and currently works with Christian Wallumrød Ensemble, The Source, Solveig Slettahjell Slow Motion Orchestra and others. Johansen graduated from the Conservatory in Trondheim in 1992, and has been teaching at the Academy of Music and the University in Oslo. |
